Eastern Illinois Tops UNF in Extras

STARKVILLE, Miss.- For the second straight weekend in a row, the North Florida softball team dropped a game to Eastern Illinois in extra innings on Sunday in the final game of the February Freezer.

NOTEABLES GAME CAPSULE
Game 1
  • North Florida scored all of its runs in the third inning before the Panther staff kept the Ospreys off the board.
  • Penrod led off with a single and stole second before Macayla Kelley sailed a single to center field to put runners on the corners. Kayla McGory then hit another single to bring Penrod home and put two on.
  • Valle's lone hit of the day was a twoout, two-RBI double to right field. With a runner still on though, Allison Golic got fanned the final batter to end the inning.
  • The Panthers scored in the bottom of the fourth on a double to center field.
  • UNF kept the Panthers off the bases for the next two innings until the bottom of the seventh.
  • EIU tied the game with two runs in the seventh to send the games to extras.
  • The Ospreys were hitless in extras and kept Eastern off the board in the eighth.
  • However, the Panthers got things going in the ninth with a leadoff single. Morgan Blourne forced the next out, but EIU hit back-to-back singles to bring the game-winning run to come around from second.
