Ospreys Outshoot Dolphins, Come Up Short

JACKSONVILLE - Despite outshooting Jacksonville, the North Florida women's basketball had a slow close to the game as the Dolphins won 69-59 on Saturday afternoon.

  • Junior Tesh Hanson recorded a team-high 12 points, while Sierra Shepherd tallied 10 points and eight assists.
  • Classmate Maiya Rumph led the team off the glass with a team-best six rebounds, while also adding eight points and two blocks.

First Half Trends
  • Jacksonville lead 12-3 early in the game to force UNF to call a timeout. 
  • The Ospreys closed in to 18-12 on a jumper from Karrah Johnson, but the Dolphins' came back with bucket to close the quarter at 20-12.
  • In the second, back-to-back baskets from Rumph pulled the Ospreys within 20-16 with 8:05 to play.
  • The teams traded baskets with JU owning 27-22 lead before going on an 8-0 run to push its advantage to double digits at 35-22.
  • Shepherd sailed a long jumper with 23 seconds left in the half to make it 35-24 halftime.
Second Half Trends
  • Jacksonville eventually took its lead back to 17 to lead 43-26 before North Florida Jaiveonna Norris started a 13-2 run to close the score to 45-39.
  • In the final two minutes of the quarter, the teams traded baskets again and a three-pointer from Shepherd to made it 51-45 after three.
  • The Ospreys opened the final frame with a 10-4 run to tie the game at 55-all, but it was short lived as Jacksonville went on a 14-0 run over the next six minutes.
  • North Florida came up empty on five possessions until Johnson ended the drought with a put-back with a minute to play.
  • Despite a last second basket from Adrienne Jackson, it was too late as JU took the win.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Jacksonville defeated UNF by 10 points in both meetings this season.
  • The Ospreys struggled form the line going 8-for-17 and hitting 2-for-7 in the final frame.
  • Despite the Ospreys having just one more turnover than Jacksonville, the Dolphins outscored the home team 26-10 on points off turnovers.
