CARDIAC BIRDS! Walk Off Win Number 2

JACKSONVILLE - It was another walk-off hit for North Florida softball as senior Jen Valle sent a hopper over the second baseman for the 7-6 victory in the ninth inning to close up day two of the Osprey Invitational.

Top Performers
  • Valle was 4-for-7 for the day with four RBI and her first home run of the season.
  • Sophomore Navia Penrod went 7-for-10 and just missed hitting for the cycle as she had a triple and a double, while also scoring three runs.
  • In the circle, Amanda Blanchard got both wins of the day with four earned runs on five hits.
  • Logan Green once again powered through two games with 9.2 innings of work and seven strikeouts.
  • Sophomore Jenna Brownell was issued five walks on the day.

GAME CAPSULES
Game 1
  • South Dakota State issued a bases loaded walk to Brownell to give North Florida the game-winning run in the fourth inning.
  • The Jackrabbits threatened in the bottom of the fifth on a three-run home run, but Morgan Blourne came in and sat down the final two batters to close out the inning.
  • North Florida scored early with three runs in the first.The first run scored on a bases loaded walk before Dominica Cocuzza singled to left field to bring in two runs and give UNF a 3-0 lead.
  • SDSU added a run in its side of the frame on a sac fly.
  • Valle slammed a homer in the second to push the Opsreys lead to 4-1.
  • The Jackrabbits added another run in the third, but Amanda Blanchard was able to get out of the inning with a fly out to stop any more damage.
  • After Blourne came in with two innings of great work with two strikeouts, Green came in and earned her first save of the season with two strikeouts in the final frame.
  • North Florida outhit South Dakota State, 12-5, in hits.
Game 2
  • After Georgia State tied the game in the seventh inning and the two teams knotted the score through nine, Valle's hopper scored Kayla McGory who was waiting on third.
  • Earlier in the inning, Cocuzza singled up the middle to bring home Penrod. Brownell then followed up on the next at bat to tie the game at 6-all.
  • Georgia State struck first in the game and held a 2-0 lead before UNF responded with run in the bottom of the frame.
  • The Ospreys then took a 3-2 lead in the sixth thanks to sac flies from Ashley Niesman and Valle. 
  • Georgia State then knotted the game in the seventh with a lead off double and a single up the middle.
  • North Florida could not get anything going in the bottom so the game went to extras.
  • Penrod was 4-for-5 against the Panthers.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • This is the second straight walk off win for the Ospreys as well as the second extra-inning outing.
  • North Florida has finished just before 1 a.m. on both days of the tournament.
  • McGory also earned five walks on the night.
  • The Ospreys had just five strikeouts across the two games.

The Ospreys close out the invitational with games against Eastern Illinois and South Carolina State on Sunday. UNF plays at 11:15 a.m. with the second game to follow.
