Ospreys Pull Out Overtime Win against Bethune-Cookman

JACKSONVILLE - North Florida women's basketball overcame a slow fourth quarter to power back in overtime and win, 70-63, on Thursday at UNF Arena.

The Short Story: Bethune-Cookman outscored the Ospreys 24-8 in the fourth quarter before the Ospreys rallied back in the extra period to take home the win.

OPENING TIP
  • Senior Keonna Farmer recorded a second straight double-double with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while also picking up three assists and four steals.
  • Classmate Tesh Hanson also had double figure points with 12 and narrowly missed a double-double with nine rebounds.
  • Freshman Tiffany Tolbert rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
  • For the game, North Florida shot a season-high 47 percent from the field and hit 4-of-6 from long range. The 57 field goals hit were also a season-high.

First Half Trends
  • After a slow start, North Florida got things going with a 6-0 run to force BCU to call a timeout with UNF lead, 10-6. 
  • Out of the break, the Wildcats came up empty, while UNF pushed its lead to 15-8 to end the quarter.
  • In the second stanza, North Florida outscored Bethune-Cookman 13-7 to own a 28-15 lead at half. 
Second Half Trends
  • In the third quarter, North Florida eventually pushed its lead to 20 points on a triple from Ta'Kyla Austin before the Ospreys' offense stalled.
  • Bethune-Cookman got back in the game thanks to a 22-5 run that stretched from the third quarter to 4:17 left in the game to give UNF a slim 53-50 lead.
  • The visitors eventually tied the game on a pair of freebies from Briana Hardee who finished with a team-best 16 points.

Overtime Trends
  • North Florida started overtime on a 9-0 run, scoring on the first four possessions and never looked back as the Wildcats would only get as close as 65-60 in the extra frame.
  • UNF went 5-for-6 from the floor in extra time, while holding BCU to just two field goals.

  • Junior Ty Purifoy dished out five helpers with seven points, while also pulling down a rebound.
  • Farmer's 25 points bests her career-high set at UAB against North Texas in March 2017. She had her first 20-point game of the season against Webber on November 24.
