UNF Sets Free Throw Record with Win against Webber

JACKSONVILLE - In a foul-plagued game, North Florida women's basketball takes down Webber, 81-53, and sets a program record with 35 free throws made in the opening game of the Fairfield Inn Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Jacksonville University.

The Short Story: UNF took 42 trips to the free throw line where it made 35 en route to taking down Webber for the fifth straight time in program history.

OPENING TIP
  • North Florida made 35 free throws which bests the previous record of 32 set in 1997. The 42 attempts are second in the record book.
  • Senior Keonna Farmer had a game-high 20 points, while grabbing eight rebounds, four steals and passing out four assists.
  • Junior Ty Purifoy and sophomore Adrienne Jackson each recorded 12 points.
  • Purifoy filled the stat sheet with four rebounds, five assists and six steals. The six steals are the most since December 29, 2015 when Sierra Shepherd had six against UNCW.
  • Tesh Hanson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points and narrowly missed a double-double with eight rebounds.

First Half Trends
  • North Florida led from start to finish in the opening 20 minutes taking a 21-point lead at the break.
  • Jackson scored 10 of her 12 points in the first two quarters. 
  • In the second quarter, Webber cut the UNF lead to 16-9, but the Ospreys jumped on a 16-5 run to lead, 32-14, by the middle of the stanza. It was as close as the Warriors got for the rest of the game.
  • UNF shot 50 percent form the floor and 66.7 percent from long-range, hitting six triples.
  • Webber was held to just 26 percent from the floor and had 14 turnovers leading to 11 points for the Ospreys.

Second Half Trends
  • The third quarter allowed Webber to get within 11 and then a three-pointer in the final frame made it a 57-47 game.
  • North Florida then went on an 11-1 run including five trips to the line to push its lead back to 20, 68-48 with 6:19 to play.
  • UNF went 7-for-8 down the stretch to close out the game and move to 3-2 on the year.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • North Florida forced a season-high 29 turnovers which led to 24 points.
  • UNF grabbed 17 steals which are the most since 2011 aided by Purifoy's six, Ta'Kyla Austin's five and four from Farmer.
  • Arianna Emanuel-Wright just missed double figures with nine points on 2-for-2 from long range and 3-for-4 outing from the line.
  • The Ospreys had six three-pointers, just one shy of matching a season high set against Warner. UNF was unable to hit a triple in the second half.
