HOUSTON, Texas - North Florida volleyball swept past Penn to open the second day of the Barcelona Labor Day Classic before falling to Toledo in five on Saturday afternoon in Sharp Gym.
The Ospreys move to 5-3 on the season heading into their first match ups on their home court. UNF hosts the Best Western Osprey Invite on Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10.

North Florida held Penn to just .112 hitting as the Ospreys raced out to their first straight-set victory of the season. The senior-freshman tandem of
Carina Hoff and
Gabby O'Connell each recorded 10 kills in the victory.
The first frame featured eight tie scores early on, but it was North Florida who closed out the win with five straight points to go up 1-0. The second frame had 12 ties and four lead changes. UNF was behind 19-13 and went on a 10-2 one to take the final lead and secure the second set victory. Senior
Kimberly Ferguson recorded two aces during the stretch, while Hoff, O'Connell and
Taryn Griffey all had a kill. The final set had just one tie score, 2-2, before UNF took control and never looked back.
Toldeo 3, UNF 2 (23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-27, 15-8 )
Despite opening the final match of the tournament with a win, North Florida did not remain consistent as Toledo took the match in five. The match had more than 40 tie scores and 13 lead changes across the five sets. The Ospreys hit a season-low .138. The Rockets posted 60 total kills, tying the top spot for opponent kills against UNF.
Gabby O'Connell had a match-best 17 kills, while
Carinne Turner just missed a triple-double with 11 digs, 27 assists and eight kills. Turner forced the fifth set as she nailed a long-ball
Katarina Raicevic also made herself known on th attack with 12 total kills.
