Game Story Lines
Quick Start: The Hurricanes scored the first two goals of the game just 1:13 apart beginning at the 12-minute mark. Kristina Fisher tallied the first score of the season for Miami on a rebound of Ronnie Johnson's strike from outside the box. Johnson delivered another strike that found the back of the net to give the Hurricanes a 2-0 advantage.
Collegiate Debut: Not only did Fisher score her team's first goal of the season, it was the freshman's first collegiate goal. In her first college game she finished with a goal and an assist to go along with five shots.
Ford Tough: Susie Ford faced a barrage of Hurricane shots and held strong. The junior made a career-high 13 stops. The total was tied for the second most by an Osprey goalkeeper in the program's D-1 era (2006-present). As a team, the Ospreys turned away 14 Miami opportunities on the night.
Impermeable D: Shots came at a premium for the North Florida attack. In the preseason, the Hurricanes did not allow a goal in four games, outscoring opponents, 14-0. The Ospreys only two shots on the night both went on goal. Senior midfielder
Sonia O'Neill had her shot turned away just after Miami's second goal of the night. Sophomore
Krista Colubiale had her header attempt in the 31
st minute denied by Hurricane goalkeeper, Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
Energized Second Half: After the Hurricanes scored four times in the opening half, the Ospreys were able to settle in limit Miami chances on net in the final 45. The North Florida defense only allowed 10 shots, six going on goal.
All-Around Effort: The Ospreys were able to work in 18 players into their rotation including Ford and
Victoria Ekeli in goal. The quartet of
Arnela Cordic,
Mikki Olson,
Gabrielle Liguori and
Jenna Steininger played all 90 minutes of the contest.
Next Up: The Ospreys will be back at home on Sunday afternoon to take on North Georgia. Game time is scheduled for noon at Hodges Stadium. The game will be carried live on ASUNTV.
