@OspreySB Takes Season Finale over USC Upstate

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The North Florida Softball team won its final game of the regular season, 4-3 over USC Upstate Sunday afternoon at the UNF Softball Complex.

The Ospreys (20-29, 6-12 A-Sun) close out their 2016 season on a positive note, after failing to qualify for this year's A-Sun Conference Tournament next week in Fort Myers.

North Florida jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first. Senior Katie Mandigo started off with a RBI double to the center field wall, scoring freshman Navia Penrod. Freshman Minnie Cocuzza also doubled in that inning, bringing home senior Stacy McClelland and Mandigo for a 3-0 lead.

USC Upstate chipped away with a solo shot in the top of the fourth, before tying the game at 3-3 with two runs in the top of the fifth.

The Ospreys responded in the bottom half of the fifth, with senior Shelby Duncan scoring senior Lexi Taylor on a sacrifice fly to take a 4-3 lead, which proved to be the eventual final.

Penrod finished 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored to kead the offense, while Logan Green earned the win in the circle for the Ospreys, allowing two hits in two innings of relief effort for North Florida.
