@OspreyBSB Overcomes Another Early Deficit to Take Series

Box Score (PDF)
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – North Florida (30-16, 9-6 A-Sun) captured its third-straight Atlantic Sun series with a 6-5 comeback victory over Lipscomb (24-22, 8-7 A-Sun). The Ospreys scored runs in all but one of their final five trips to the plate.

The Ospreys found themselves in a familiar position, down 4-0 after the first inning. Lipscomb scored 10 of its 17 runs in the series in the first inning. North Florida chipped away beginning in the fourth inning and overtook the Bisons with a two-run rally in the sixth.

Trailing 4-3 going into the bottom of the sixth, the Ospreys looked to sacrifice bunt twice after lead-off man Kyle Brooks walked. Instead, two perfectly placed bunts by Dakota Higdon and Keith Skinner led to infield singles and loaded the bases with no outs. Brooks scored the tying run on a double play ball scorched by Corbin Olmstead. Higdon later scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.

The story of the day was the relief efforts of Matthew Naylor and Olmstead. The duo came up big, aiding an already taxed bullpen that threw 8.1 innings in Saturday's win. Naylor entered in the top of the first and tossed 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. He did not walk a batter in his team-leading 26th appearance of the season.

Olmstead relieved Naylor in the sixth, stranded a pair of runners and induced an inning-ending double play. The senior right-hander matched a season-high with 4.0 innings pitched and established a new season-high with five strikeouts, including one of the final batter of the game with the tying run on third base. Olmstead improved to 5-0 on the season and won his 13th game of his career, tied for the fifth most in the program's D-1 era.

Freshman Chris Berry drove in two of the Ospreys six runs on the afternoon. He put the Ospreys on the board with a RBI single through the right side in the fourth inning. An inning later his sacrifice fly scored Nick Karmeris and pulled North Florida within a run. In the series, Berry was 4-for-9 with two doubles and four RBIs.

Karmeris provided the Ospreys with some insurance in the eighth inning with an RBI fielder's choice that enabled Skinner to score. The run gave North Florida a 6-4 lead and proved to be vital as the Bisons scored a run in the top of the ninth. Karmeris was 2-for-5 with a run scored and totaled five hits in the series.

Higdon, who scored the go-ahead run in the sixth, put together his third three-hit game of the season and finished the day 3-for-5 with a run scored. Chris Thibideau also had three hits in the contest, wrapping up a 6-for-12 weekend stint against Lipscomb.

The Ospreys won their 22 home game of the season and are winners of 12 of their last 13 games at Harmon Stadium. With four remaining home games, the Ospreys have a shot at eclipsing the D-1 era record of 24 set in 2013 and 2015.

North Florida will be back in action with a home and home midweek series with Georgia Southern. Tuesday the Eagles will be in Jacksonville before the Ospreys head up to Statesboro on Wednesday. Both games have scheduled first pitch times of 6:00 p.m.
