@OspreySB Drops Both in A-Sun Doubleheader with FGCU


FORT MYERS, Fla. The North Florida Softball team fell in both games of their A-Sun conference doubleheader against the Eagles of FGCU, Monday night in Fort Myers, Fla.
 
The Ospreys (19-26, 5-9 A-Sun) now sit in seventh place in the conference standings, while the Eagles (26-25, 9-5 A-Sun) move into a tie for first and have clinched a spot in the A-Sun tournament with four conference games remaining in the schedule for both teams.
 
Game 1: FGCU 6, North Florida 0
 
The Ospreys mustered only one hit in the first game of the day, with freshman Navia Penrod notching a single in the top of the third.
 
The Eagles took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of first, adding two runs in the second and third each to make the score 5-0. FGCU added another run in the bottom of the sixth to make the score the eventual final of 6-0.
 
Game 2: FGCU 5, North Florida 4
 
In a back and forth second game, the Ospreys took the early lead with a three-run first inning, with senior Stacy McClelland and freshman Minnie Cocuzza both driving in runs on RBI singles. FGCU responded with a two-run home run to make the score 3-2 after 1 inning, which was split up by an hour and a half rain delay.
 
The Eagles took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second, scoring runs on a RBI single and a bases-loaded walk.
 
In the top of the fourth, Penrod managed to tie up the ball game at 4-4, scoring junior Ashia Kerr on a RBI single.
 
The Eagles responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the fourth, making the score the eventual final of 5-4 on a RBI double.

The Ospreys face the Eagles in the final game of the series tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m., carried live on ASunTV.
