TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – North Florida (19-12) scored five runs in its final two turns at the plate in a 9-6, extra inning, road victory over Florida A&M (18-10).
Down 6-4 with one out in the top of the ninth, senior
Corbin Olmstead blasted a two-run home run over the left center field wall to knot the game at six. He came on to pitch the bottom of the ninth and recorded the final three outs and left the bases loaded to send the game to extra innings.
That set the stage for
Kyle Brooks in the top of the 10
th inning who capped a monster night. With runners on second and third, Brooks hit a ground ball up the middle that was misplayed by the second baseman and allowed both runners to score. Earlier in the game, Brooks hit his first home run of the season and went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and three runs scored on the night.
The clutch home run by Olmstead was one of four long balls on the afternoon for the Ospreys, matching a season-high. North Florida captured its first lead of the day thanks to back-to-back home runs by
Nick Karmeris and
Chris Thibideau in the fourth inning. Kameris' sixth home run of the year tied the game at three and Thibideau's fourth of the year gave the Ospreys a 4-3 advantage.
Karmeris recorded an RBI in his fifth-straight game and had a season-high three hits. Thibideau finished the night 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. The multiple-hit effort was his 11
th of the season.
Florida A&M out-hit North Florida 14-11. It marked the second time in as many days the Ospreys won despite getting out-hit. The Rattlers squandered two leads in the contest, the first a 3-0 advantage after the first two innings. They re-gained the lead in the bottom of the seventh on a single by Brian Davis that scored Dylan Dillard. Davis finished with a team-high three hits and Dillard scored three times for the Rattlers.
North Florida has now recorded 10 come-from-behind victories this season and have won both extra innings games played. The Ospreys have scored 16 runs this season in the ninth inning. They take both games of the season-series against Florida A&M, improving to 17-1 all-time against the Rattlers.
