SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Top-seeded North Florida women's tennis awaits its opponent in the 2016 Atlantic Sun Championship semifinals beginning on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
This year marks the fourth time in the last five years UNF has been the No. 1 seed in the A-Sun Championship. UNF completed a perfect 6-0 slate against A-Sun competition for the third time in four years and went 30-6 in A-Sun singles matches. North Florida has dropped just four doubles matches in A-Sun play.
Quetzali Vazquez leads the squad with a 12-5 record on the singles court this season, while A-Sun Player of the Year
Noemi Hemmerich and All-Conference first team member
Luise Intert both boast 11 wins. Both Intert and Vazquez tallied perfect 6-0 records in A-Sun competition this season.
UNF defeated Lipscomb during the regular season, 6-1 with the Bisons taking the lone point in No. 3 singles. The Ospreys shut out Kennesaw State in the same weekend with just the No. 1 match going to three sets.
The Ospreys defeated Lipscomb in 2015 to advance to the championship match against FGCU. UNF shut out the Bisons after winning the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3.
Michelle Valdez clinched the victory with her win in the No. 2 spot.
If UNF advances, the championship match is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday.
