Six Combine for 2-hit Shutout in @OspreyBSB’s Onslaught of FAMU

Box Score (PDF)
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The North Florida pitching staff limited Florida A&M (15-9) to just two hits in a decisive, 15-0 win this evening at Harmon Stadium. The Ospreys scored 14 of their 15 runs in the first three innings.

North Florida (16-10) won its fifth straight home game and has now emerged victorious in 10 of the last 12 games played.

It took little time for the Ospreys to seize control of the game after five runs crossed the plate in both the first and second innings. A four-run rally in the third opened up a commanding 14-0 advantage.

Starting pitcher Frank German got the ball rolling on the mound in the Ospreys' second shutout of the season. He was deemed the most effective pitcher in the predetermined pitching order for the Ospreys, earning his first collegiate win. He struck out two batters and threw 28 pitches in two innings. He did not allow a hit to any of the seven batters he faced.

Sophomores Zach Drury and Adam Polansky kept the no-hit bid alive over the next three innings. Drury faced seven batters and struck out two in two innings of work. Polansky took over in the fifth and struck out two of the three batters he faced. Polansky has allowed only two hits and hasn't yielded a run over his last eight innings pitched.

The combined no-hit attempt was finally broken up in the sixth inning when Peter Jackson singled through the right side to lead off the top of the sixth inning. Jackson recorded both of the Rattler hits on the night.

Alex Merritt provided the fireworks for the Ospreys in the bottom of the first inning with his fourth home run of the year. The three-run, blast capped a five run inning. Merritt finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored. All four of his home runs this season have come with runners on base including a grand slam back on Feb. 21.

The at bat prior, Nick Karmeris singled home both Dakota Higdon and Christian Diaz for the first two runs of the game. Karmeris was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Higdon, who was lifted for a pinch hitter in the third inning, was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. His first career triple in the second inning plated two runs and finished the second inning, five-run inning for the Ospreys.

Kyle Brooks started the second inning rally with his first hit of the night, plating two runners on an RBI single to left. He was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. His walk in the five-run first inning extended his reached base streak to 20 games.

The Ospreys' leading hitter, Keith Skinner rounded out the Osprey two-hit performances after a 2-for-3 night. He ups his average to .393 and is now tied for the team-lead with eight doubles on the year.

Corbin Olmstead kept his hitting streak alive with a single in bottom of the third inning. Olmstead has now hit safely in 19 straight games while Chris Thibideau has reached base in his last 13 games.

The early offense was nothing new for the Ospreys. Of the 187 runs they've scored this year, 90 of them (48%) have been in the first three innings. The second inning has been the Ospreys most potent inning with 32 runs thus far this season.

North Florida is now 16-1 against Florida A&M all-time and 10-0 at Harmon Stadium.

The Ospreys completed the month of March with a 13-5 record and will begin April with the Atlantic Sun Conference opener at Kennesaw State on Friday. The game will be carried live on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app with first pitched scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
