Women's Basketball Shuts Down Warner

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida women's basketball shut down visiting Warner as the Ospreys snapped a four-game losing streak with a 72-44 victory in the final game of the Best Western Osprey New Year Classic on Saturday afternoon.

The Short Story: North Florida had four players score in double figures en route to its win against Warner with Sierra Shepherd leading the way with 14 points as the Ospreys closed out the non-conference portion of their schedule.

OPENING TIP
- Junior Sierra Shepherd led the team with 14 points and added three rebounds, two assists and three steals and no turnovers.
- Making her second start of her career, freshman Kirsten Clement stepped up with a season-best 12 points to go with four rebounds.
- Adrienne Jackson and Hadley Kiefer each added 11 points off the bench.
- Junior Tesh Hanson was dishing out helpers to her teammates today as she recorded a career-high six helpers in addition to her four rebounds that included three on the offensive end.
- Charisa Broadway led the way for the Royals with 14 points.
- The Ospreys led from start to finish for the third time this season.

GAME TRENDS
1st Half Reflections
- Shepherd hit a three-pointer to open the first half and start a 9-0 run for UNF.
- From there the Ospreys kept their distance, leading by at least two for the remainder of the quarter and finally 18-14 at the end of the frame.
- Warner kept it close in the second, keeping in striking distance at 27-20 before Shepherd hit a layup to spark another UNF run. This time, a 12-0 stretch that gave UNF the double digit lead it would keep through the rest of the game.
- The visitors had a free throw and final triple from Broadway to make it 41-24 at the half in favor of the home team.
- UNF shot 58 percent from the field, while holding Warner to 38 percent.

2nd Half Reflections
- Out of the break, Clement pushed the lead back to 20 with her lone three-pointer of the game. 
- Warner chipped away at the Ospreys lead going on a 10-1 run to pull within 52-40.
- North Florida quickly turned the game back in its direction with a Clement layin and a late trey from Kiefer to lead 58-40 after three.
- The beginning of the fourth was quite messy as neither team could find the basket. 
- UNF outscored Warner 14-4 in the final 10 minutes as the Royals were 2-for-13 from the field.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- The Ospreys 10 turnovers are a season low, while Warner committed the second most against UNF this season.
- The last time just four UNF players hit double digits was on February 22, 2016 against NJIT.
- North Florida picked up 10 steals on th day with Maiya Rumph and Shepherd each grabbing three. It is the fourth time this season Rumph has grabbed away three.
- It was the fourth time this season that Shepherd led in scoring.
