HOW IT HAPPENED
Set one saw a sluggish start for UNF as they matched NJIT through the first 16 points. The teams continued to trade points until the media timeout with UNF leading 15-13. The Ospreys then went on a 7-1 stretch to lead 22-14. Back-to-back block assists late in the set made it set point at 24-17. A solo stop from the Highlanders halted the home team's momentum for a moment, but another UNF block closed the set 25-18.
The visitors kept it close in the second frame and held a lead 15-14 at the media timeout. It was short lived though as senior
Erin Edwards recorded a kill and an ace to spark an 8-1 run to give UNF a 23-17 advantage. NJIT tried to get back in the game on a UNF service error, but Van Alstine and sophomore
Madilyn McCarty threw down the next two kills to make it a 2-0 lead heading into intermission.
The final set saw the teams knot the score seven times through the first 14 points, but from there it was the hosts' game. At 7-all, three straight points on
Kimberly Fergusons serves started a 10-2 run that put UNF out front, 17-9 and forced NJIT to call a timeout. The teams traded points, but the lead was too great as NJIT would only muster six more points for the match as UNF went on to win.
