Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Despite Furious Attack, @OspreyMSOC Falls to USF

Box Score (PDF)
TAMPA, Fla. – The North Florida men's soccer team had nine of its 16 shots land on goal but ultimately couldn't connect in a 2-0 loss to USF. The Bulls registered their third, 2-0 shutout of the season and improve to 4-2 on the year.

The Bulls cashed in on their opportunities with a goal in each half. The diverse USF attack saw both Gabriel Carlsson and Marcus Epps record their first goals of the season. The duo was the seventh and eighth goal scorers for the squad this season. With three ranked opponents on their schedule, the Bulls have outscored their counterparts, 9-8 in 2015.

"We needed to be better in possession, especially early, where we let them dictate the pace of the game," said Head Coach Derek Marinatos. "We improved from our last time out and a credit to them (USF), they are a good team. We were able to get into our style of play later on in the game and it's unfortunate that we weren't able to get a goal."

Carlsson put the Bulls on the scoreboard in the 26th minute off a pass from Nazeem Bartman. Despite the goal, the Ospreys took a 9-5 shot advantage going into halftime. Including the goal, only two of the USF shots landed on goal compared to five on net for the Ospreys.

USF opened up a two-goal advantage 15 minutes into the second half action, when Epps headed in a pass from Eduardo Maceira. The lead proved to be insurmountable as Bull goalkeeper Spasoje Stefanovic turned all four Ospreys scoring chances in the second half. Stefanovic finished with a game-high nine saves.

The defensive highlight of the game came courtesy of North Florida goalkeeper Kyle Nasta. After a foul in the box, USF was awarded a penalty kick in the 82nd minute. The attempt was denied by Nasta who made three saves in the contest.

The Ospreys will continue its three-game stint on the road this weekend with a matchup against UNC Greensboro on Friday night. The game is the first of two in four days in the Tar Heel State which concludes with a visit to Chapel Hill for a match against No. 3 North Carolina on Monday.
