FLORENCE, S.C. – The North Florida Women's Soccer team started off their 2015 season with a 4-0 win over Francis Marion Friday in Florence, S.C.
"It was great to start the season off with a win and score some goals. I think we could've been a little better in possession, but we continue to create some good chances," said head coach
Robin Confer.
The Ospreys (1-0) took just 52 seconds to score their first goal of the season, when freshman
Krista Colubiale took a long pass from sophomore
Sarah Wasser into the box and beat the keeper to bury her first career goal.
Later in the 28
th minute, senior
Ashley Carmean sent a cross towards the box, deflecting off of a Francis Marion defender and over the goalkeeper's head for an own goal and a 2-0 Osprey lead.
Moments later in the 30
th minute, junior
Alexis Bredeau drilled a 20-yard shot from just outside the box to push the margin to a 3-0 Osprey lead into the half.
In the 67
th minute, sophomore
Kayla Gray dribbled the ball into the box before a quick cross to senior
Amanda Fischler, who tapped the ball in from four yards out to make the lead the eventual final of 4-0.
The Osprey defense held strong throughout the match, with Francis Marion only able to muster one shot, juniors
Susie Ford and
Victoria Ekeli combined for the shutout.
"We now turn our focus to FAU who are a great team and will be very organized," added Confer. "We were able to rotate a lot of players today which will hopefully help us on Sunday.
The Ospreys are back in action for their home opener this Sunday at 1 p.m., when they host FAU at Hodges Stadium.
