Live ScoringAtlantic Sun Tournament JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida women's tennis quest for its third Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship in four years begins on Saturday against No. 4 Lipscomb at the UNF Tennis Complex. The Ospreys, who won the Atlantic Sun Regular Season crown and are the No. 1 seed, play the Lady Bison at 11:30 a.m.
"Tomorrow will be a great opportunity for the girls to see how far they have come through their hard work and trust in each other," said head coach
Audra Cohen. "We are expecting every team we face to play their best tennis against us and we are excited for the challenge."
UNF clinched the tournament's top seed and the regular season crown two weeks ago at Florida Gulf Coast. The Ospreys were the only team to go undefeated during the Atlantic Sun Regular season, posting a 6-0 mark. UNF shutout three conference foes during the season, including both Lipscomb and Northern Kentucky.
The Ospreys enter Saturday's on a seven-match winning streak and are 10-1 at the UNF Tennis Complex this spring.
Earlier in the week, seven Ospreys were honored with All-Conference honors with
Michelle Valdez being a unanimous First Team selection. Additionally,
Marina Cunningham was named to the Atlantic Sun Women's Tennis Academic All-Conference Team.
Lipscomb advances to Saturday's semifinals after defeating No. 5 Northern Kentucky 4-0 in Friday's quarterfinals. The Lady Bisons won the doubles point and then took matches at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles.
Including Friday's match, Lipscomb has won its last four matches and finished the regular season with three-straight 6-1 victories. Laura Kent has been a strong force on the No. 3 singles court, compiling a 15-2 record. Additionally, the Lady Bisons have been solid in doubles competition with a 14-6 record on the No. 2 court and a 15-3 mark at No. 3 doubles.
Winner of Saturday's semifinals match will face the winner of the No. 2 Stetson-No. 3 Florida Gulf Coast match on Sunday.
