Five-hit Night for Dewees Powers @OspreyBSB to Fifth-Straight Win

Box Score (PDF)
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Donnie Dewees went 5-for-5 with his third home run of the season in tonight's 7-3 win over Brown (1-6). The Ospreys, winners of their last five games, improve to 11-8 on the season.

Dewees becomes the 11th player in the D-1 era and the first since current Assistant Coach Andrew Hannon to record five hits in a game. The red-shirt sophomore did it all for Ospreys right from the start. He had the Ospreys first hit of the game, stole two bases and later scored on a sacrifice fly. He had three stolen bases in the contest, tying the D-1 mark set by Brennan Grogan in 2006. He now leads the Atlantic Sun with 11 on the year.

The speedy outfielder legged out a pair of infield hits including a single in the bottom of the eighth with two outs that scored Blake Voyles from third base. He scored three of the Ospreys seven runs on the night and drove in two more, one coming off his no-doubt home run in the sixth. He sent a 1-0 fastball that cleared right center field wall with plenty of room to spare.

Red-shirt senior Tyler Moore picked up his first victory of the season on the mound. He made his fifth start of 2015 and pitched into the sixth inning for the third time. The right-hander struck out five batters and yielded only one earned run. He has now held opponents to two or less runs in four of his five starts this season. The win is the 14th of his career which ties Tommy Organ for the most in the Ospreys' D-1 era.

The Ospreys never trailed in the contest and scored one run in all but one inning. With 10 hits tonight, it marks the fourth-straight game in which North Florida has collected 10 or more hits. As a team the Ospreys are 8-3 when racking up 10 or more hits this season.

Junior reliever Corbin Olmstead put an end to what would have been a game-changing inning for Brown in the eighth. With the score 6-3, he took over on the mound with no outs and runners on second and third. He preceded to strikeout the next two hitters and induced an inning-ending ground out to keep the Bears off the scoreboard. He went on to finish the game and earned the six-out save. The save was the 7th of his career and the first since 2013.

Nick Karmeris added to his hot-hitting with an opposite field home run in the second inning. He is 5-for-8 with three  RBIs in his last two games. Senior Trent Higginbothem drove in two runs for the Ospreys and was 1-for-2 with a walk. He now is tied for the league lead with 21 RBIs.

The two teams will be back in action tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Harmon Stadium. Lefthander Tyler DuPont and Bryan Baker will get the starts in games one and two respectively for North Florida. Brown will send Eddie Fitzpatrick to the bump in game one and has yet to announce a starter for game two. Tomorrow's twinbill will be the first broadcast of the season on 1010XL with the voice of the Ospreys, Richard Miller on the call.
