Troy, Ala. – Senior
Kayla Goff threw her second complete-game shutout of the season and junior
Stacy McClelland added two doubles and two RBIs as the North Florida Softball team improved to 5-0 on the year with a 3-0 win over Troy Sunday afternoon.
The 5-0 start is the best under head coach
Marcie Hickey and tied for the best start in UNF Division I history.
"We came out on the attack today. We hit the ball hard and kept the pressure on the whole game," said Hickey. "Kayla [Goff] was fantastic on the mound in her second complete game shutout. This weekend was a great way to start the 2015 season."
The Ospreys went up 2-0 after McClelland grounded out to the shortstop, allowing freshman
Taylor Aguayo to score. An illegal pitch then scored junior
Shelby Duncan.
McClelland added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, scoring Duncan off of her second double of the day. McClelland led the bats this weekend, hitting .409 with two home runs, two doubles, nine RBIs, and a slugging percentage of .773.
Goff was a force on the mound for the Ospreys Sunday, striking out nine batters while only surrendering four hits and one walk. Goff's total stats for the weekend include three wins, two complete-game shutouts, 20 strikeouts, no earned runs and an opposing batting average of .190.
North Florida comes home for the first time in 2015 when they host Maine, James Madison, Virginia Tech and Jacksonville State in tournament action next Friday and Saturday at the UNF Softball Complex.
