JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Atlantic Sun Conference leading North Florida basketball team opened up the second half of league play Friday night with a dominating victory over crosstown rival Jacksonville, 77-50, in front of an UNF Arena record crowd of 5,102.

The Ospreys (15-10, 7-1 ASun) had five players reach double digit points en route to claiming their fourth consecutive win in the River City Rumble competition with the Dolphins (7-18, 1-7 ASun). UNF never trailed in the game and led by double figures at half before posting the team's largest margin of victory in 10 seasons of Atlantic Sun Conference play.

Junior Beau Beech hit four three-pointers to finish with a team-leading 16 points followed by 14 points and three blocked shots from fellow junior Demarcus Daniels. Trent Mackey also finished with four treys in scoring 12 points, while Dallas Moore chipped in 11 and Chris Davenport added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Kori Babineaux scored 23 of the Dolphins 50 points on the night making 10 of 17 field goals.

"I thought our guys were really locked in from the start," said head coach Matthew Driscoll. "We did a great job of not only sharing the ball, but also of taking care of the basketball as we committed just six turnovers for the game including only one in the second half. I can't thank our students and fans enough for showing up tonight and making a difference. I really felt like the crowd had a huge impact and kept the energy high throughout the game. Exciting to get the second part of the conference play started with a big win."

UNF set the tone early opening the game with a 10-2 run over the first four minutes of play. The Ospreys would extend their lead to double figures at 18-8 with 12:54 left in the first half before JU responded with an 8-0 spurt of their own to close within a basket just two minutes later.

After trading baskets for several possessions, the Ospreys would outscore the Dolphins, 16-7, over the final eight minutes of the first period to take a 36-25 lead into the halftime break. Both teams shot extremely well in the half with UNF hitting at a 60 percent (15-25) clip and JU reaching 56 percent (9-16).

North Florida broke the game open in the second half using a 26-7 run over the first 10 minutes to reach their largest lead of the game, 59-32. Jacksonville could get no closer than 21 points the rest of the way as UNF cruised to the record-setting victory margin.

For the game, UNF shot 52 percent from the floor while also connecting on 12 three-pointers. JU finished at 50 percent shooting but could only muster three treys on the night. The Ospreys also dominated the glass outrebounding the Dolphins 30-19.

Next up for North Florida is a rematch against USC Upstate on Feb. 12 in Spartanburg, S.C. UNF will be looking to avenge their only conference loss of the season.
