Box Score (PDF)BOCA RATON, Fla. – For the first time in the month of October, the North Florida men's soccer team (7-6-1) found themselves on the losing end of a soccer match. The Ospreys were downed, 1-0 by FAU in their final non-conference game of the season.
The two teams endured a halftime weather delay of over an hour before getting back to game action. The extended break seemingly benefited the Owls, who scored the game's lone goal in the in the 56
th minute. Michael Quinn served a corner kick to the back post where Thomas Gallits headed home the eventual game-winner.
The contest only saw three shots land on goal but none more important than the one off Gallits' head. The Ospreys had two of their three shots saved by goalkeeper Phillip Hitpass. The victory is the first non-conference win of the season for the Owls as they improve 2-11-2 on the year.
For the game the Ospreys had a 8-6 edge in shots attempted seven corner kicks compared to just two by the Owls. Sophomore
Tord Pedersen saw his first action of the season in net for the Ospreys in his first start of the season. Junior
Juanes Fajardo played the final 32 minutes in goal but did not need to make s save.
The Ospreys will turn their focus to Saturday where they will be competing for a chance at their first Regular Season Conference Championship in school history. A win against USC Upstate at Hodges Stadium will clinch a share of the conference crown with FGCU. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m. with senior day ceremonies commencing roughly 10 minutes prior to kickoff.
