Boxscore (PDF) JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A tough night of hitting resulted in University of North Florida volleyball falling 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-14) to Stetson on Saturday at UNF Arena.
"We didn't have our best game today," said head coach
Steve Loeswick. "It's unfortunate because we had a nice crowd and we weren't able to consistent enough to build on some of the positive energy that was here today. We're going to get back in the gym and work some things out. We will be better next weekend."
Erin Edwards led the Ospreys with eight kills.
Carinne Turner registered a 14-assist, 11-dig double-double.
Abby Fesl tallied 17 assists and
Kimberly Ferguson also recorded 11 digs.
UNF hit .087 with 34 kills and 45 digs.
Haley Tippett paced the Hatters with 13 kills and 12 digs. Kayla Weller put up 34 assists and Michelle Kastner tallied 15 digs.
Stetson hit .296 for the match, making 39 kills, 56 digs and nine total team blocks.
Stetson attempted to pull away early, using a five-point run to get a 13-8 lead. UNF responded with four-point spurt to come to within one. However, a pair of Hatter runs allowed Stetson to gain a 21-14 advantage. UNF ultimately saw Stetson capitalize on an Osprey service error to win the set.
UNF trailed Stetson early in the second set before coming back to take an 18-17 lead. As the teams battled for the remaining points, UNF went up 24-23 on a
Katarina Raicevic kill. However, Stetson rattled off three-straight kills to win the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Ospreys attempted to fight back in the third set, but the Hatters finished the set and the match on a nine-point run.
UNF returns to action next Friday when the Ospreys visit cross-town rival Jacksonville in the second River City Rumble meeting of the season. Match time is set for 7 p.m., at Swisher Gymnasium.
