JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pair of goals from Shannen Wacker propelled the Eagles of Florida Gulf Coast to a 3-0 win over the North Florida Women's Soccer team Friday night at Hodges Stadium.
"I thought we had some good moments in the game tonight and we need to be more clinical in the attacking third of the field," said head coach
Robin Confer. "We had a chance to tie FGCU made a great defensive clearance off the line. That goes in and it becomes a different ball game."
The Eagles (7-3-0, 1-0-0 A-Sun) scored their first goal in the 25
th minute, where Wacker fielded a deflection from a Tabby Tindell shot around four yards out, then put it past senior goalkeeper
Megan Dorsey.
The Ospreys (1-9-0, 0-1-0 A-Sun) defense held strong until the 61
st minute, when Wacker was delivered a long pass from teammate Paulina Speckmaier, created a 1-one-1 chance, and Wacker found the high left side of the net.
The Eagles delivered their third and final goal in the 73
rd minute, when Speckmaier found Kailtlin Parker with a cross from the right to left side of the 18, and Parker delivered to the back left post.
The Ospreys offense was sporadic at times, with 10 shots coming and four on goal. Senior
Jill Holdsworth led the team in shots with three, while sophomore
Alexis Bredeau finished with two shots on goal.
"One of the defining qualities of this team is the effort and fight they bring to each game and it is going to pay off for us down the road in conference," added Confer.
North Florida is back in action on Sunday when they face Davidson at Hodges Stadium in a non-conference tilt at 1 p.m. The match will be streamed live on A-Sun.TV.
