JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The University of North Florida men's team upset No. 75 College of Charleston 5-2 on Sunday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.
"I´m very happy with our performance and the win today," said freshman
Yannick Zuern. "Our hard work over the past few weeks has paid off now and everyone was responsible for the win today. I´m happy that I was able to clinch the match for us today. It was a tough match and having all the teams support off the court helped me to win the match today. We have the momentum from our three wins this week and will try to keep it up for the next matches."
In doubles, the Ospreys clinched the doubles point for the fifth match in a row. No. 47
Jack Findel-Hawkins and
Norbert Nemcsek downed Brice Allanic and Charlie Ghriskey 8-3 at the No. 1 spot. At the No. 2 spot, No. 34
Caio Gomes and Zuern defeated Alon Faiman and Zack Lewis 8-2.
In singles, Gomes got a quick start with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Rodrigo Encinas to put the Ospreys up 2-0. College of Charleston countered with a win at No. 6 singles to put the score at 2-1. Findel-Hawkins put the Ospreys up 3-1 by defeating Allanic 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) at the No. 1 position.
Zuern clinched the fourth point with three-set victory at the No. 4 spot. Zuern downed Ghriskey 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4. About thirty-seconds later, Nemcsek defeated Cresente Lesser 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot to grab the final singles point for the Ospreys.
The Ospreys to go on the road to face fellow instate foe and Atlantic Sun competitor Stetson on Saturday, March 22 at 10 a.m., at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
