FORT MYERS, Fla. – Despite coming out with a solid first set, University of North Florida volleyball's season concluded with a 3-1 (19-25, 25-14, 25-17, 25-17) loss to cross-town rival Jacksonville in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament.

"I'm proud of the careers our seniors have had," said head coach Steve Loeswick. "Tonight was not the result we were hoping for, but I know our team played very well at times this year. Our program is continuing to grow and get better."

UNF hit. 250 in the first set and used several runs to separate itself from the Dolphins. The Ospreys gained a six-point, 18-12 lead on a Jacksonville attack miscue. UNF pushed its lead to seven as another Dolphin attacking miscue put the Ospreys up 20-13. Jacksonville attempted to cut into the Ospreys' lead with a four-point spurt to make it 20-17. However, a kill from Morgan Van Alstine halted the Dolphins' run. UNF ultimately closed the set on a three-point run with a solo block from Tessa Alyman clinching set point.

Poor hitting hurt the Ospreys in the final three sets and UNF also had to contend with a Jacksonville team that hit .250 or better in each of the last three sets.

In the second set, UNF faced a late eight-point deficit as Jacksonville went up 17-9 on an Osprey attack error. A kill from Alyman started a three-point run as UNF trimmed Jacksonville's lead down to 17-12. However, Jacksonville strung together points on each of its last three serving rotations and finished the set with a three-point run.

UNF had to rebound from an early Jacksonville run in the third set as the Dolphins scored six-straight points to go up 12-6. The Ospreys came to within five points on a Dolphin miscue to make it 15-10. After Jacksonville gained an eight-point cushion, UNF chipped away at the deficit as a Cameron McGuire kill made it 20-14. Jacksonville answered with a four-point run to a 24-14 advantage. UNF fended off set-point three times before the Dolphins sealed the set win with an Osprey attack error.

UNF and Jacksonville battled through the first half of the fourth set. However, with UNF up by one, a Jacksonville block sparked a five-point run as the Dolphins took a 17-13 lead. Although UNF attempted to fight back, a late three-point run put the Dolphins up 24-16. A kill from Carina Hoff on the next point kept the Ospreys alive before Jacksonville won the match on an Osprey attack error.

Abby Fesl registered a 23-assist, 10-dig double-double for the Ospreys. McGuire notched a team-best 11 kills, while Cari Whitmire tallied 26 digs. Carinne Turner added 15 assists.

UNF hit .092 for the match and made 46 kills and 70 digs.

Emily Laskelle tallied a match-best 16 kills, while Sammie Strausbaugh recorded a 14-kill, 14-dig double-double. Jizzian Gesulado put up 33 assists and Rachel Miller made 31 digs.

Jacksonville hit .234 for the match with 51 kills and 83 digs.

UNF ends the season with a 13-18 overall record and graduates four seniors in Saelina Dunn, Madison Hatcher, McGuire and Whitmire.
