Ospreys End Nonconference Season with Road Win

STATESBORO, Ga. – The University of North Florida baseball team jumped out to an early lead over Georgia Southern and held on for a 5-2 victory on Tuesday night at J.I. Clements Stadium in Statesboro, Ga. The Ospreys improved to 36-16 on the year, while the Eagles dropped to 25-27.
 
North Florida opened the game with two runs in the first two innings and cruised to a 5-2 victory behind solid pitching. The Ospreys pitching staff allowed just two runs on nine hits in the game. UNF used four pitchers on the night, combining for six strikeouts, while walking just three.
 
On the mound, Tyler Moore picked up his second win of the season. The junior tossed 4.0 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Moore walked two and struck out four batters. Jamie Cardwell entered the game in relief of Moore. The southpaw allowed two runs on two hits with a strikeout in his 1.0 inning of work. Evan Incinelli threw 1.2 scoreless innings allowing four hits and a walk. Corbin Olmstead ended the game with 1.1 scoreless innings en route to his team-leading sixth save of the season. Olmstead allowed a pair of hits, while striking out one.
 
Offensively, the Ospreys tallied 12 hits in the game, including three extra base hits. Joe Wielbruda, Tyler Marincov, Nick Karmeris and Spencer Herrmann each notched a pair of base hits in the game. Five different batters scored a run in the game, while five batters drove in a RBI each. Marincov, Corey Bass and Donnie Dewees each doubled in the game to provide the power production for the Ospreys.
 
North Florida started the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Joe Wielbruda led off the game with a walk and moved to second base on his eighth stolen base of the season. With one out, Marincov doubled to right field, scoring the first run of the game. Dewees followed with a RBI double down the right field line to give the Ospreys an early 2-0 lead.
 
The Ospreys added a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. With one out, Bass doubled to center field. Herrmann followed with a single to left center field, giving North Florida runners on the corners. Wielbruda singled to right center field to score Bass from third. Paul Karmeris was able to reach base on a fielding error by the Eagles, plating Herrmann from third and increasing the advantage to 4-0.
 
North Florida added an insurance run in the top of the fourth inning. Kyle Brooks led off the inning with a single up the middle. He moved into scoring position after a sacrifice bunt by Bass. Herrmann drove home Brooks with a RBI single through the right side of the infield.
 
Georgia Southern prevented the shutout with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, the Eagles placed a runner on base with a single through the left side of the infield. After a strikeout, the batter stole second to move into scoring position. T.D. Davis put Georgia Southern on the scoreboard with a two-RBI home run to left field, cutting the lead to 5-2.
 
The Osprey pitching staff limited the Eagles to just two runs on the night and cruised to the 5-2 victory.
