Baseball Bests Florida A&M, 7-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida scored seven runs on 10 hits to cruise by Florida A&M, 7-1, on Tuesday night at Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium. The Ospreys improved to 17-9 overall, while the Rattlers dropped to 5-22. UNF improves their home record to 10-4 overall.
 
Offensively, three Ospreys players recorded multiple hits on the night led by Alex Bacon who finished the night 3-for-3 with two doubles and a team-best two runs scored and an RBI. Tyler Marincov and Joe Wielbruda each finished the game with two hits apiece, while Corey Bass drove home a team-best two RBI.
 
On the mound, Tyler Moore picked up the victory. The sophomore tossed 3.0 innings in a controlled start. Moore surrendered just one hit and a walk, while striking out three batters. Chandler Jagodzinski worked 2.2 innings of relief. The senior surrendered a run on three hits without issuing a walk. Jagodzinski struck out a career-best five batters. Ryan McMahon tossed a career-high 2.1 innings of relief, striking out a career-best three batters. Spencer Brown closed out the game, working the last inning. He allowed a hit with a strikeout.
 
North Florida struck first with three runs in the top of the first inning. Bass led off the game with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Wielbruda. Andrew Karmeris followed with a RBI double to left field to score Bass from second. The Ospreys scored a second run on a wild pitch by the Rattlers. With a runner on third base, Marincov singled through the left side of the infield to score A. Karmeris and give UNF a 3-0 advantage.
 
The Ospreys added a run in the top of the second inning. Bacon led off the inning with a double and advanced to third base on a fielding error by the FAMU left fielder. T.J. Gavlik drove home Bacon with a RBI groundout to extend the lead to 4-0.
 
The Rattlers cut into the Ospreys lead with a run in the top of the fourth inning. The leadoff batter began the inning with a double down the left field line. The runner stole third base to move within 90 feet of home. After a hit batter, the Rattlers used a RBI single to score the lead runner. Jagodzinski got out of the inning with three strikeouts, including back-to-back punch outs to end the inning.
 
North Florida pushed its lead to 7-1 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ryan Roberson was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Garrick Ferguson pinch ran for Roberson at first base. Drew Weeks walked to give UNF a pair of base runners. Bacon singled up the middle, scoring Ferguson from second base. Gavlik advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Bass drove home the two runners with a single to right center field to push the Osprey advantage to six runs.
 
Neither team was able to score in the final three innings with the North Florida bullpen holding the Rattlers scoreless and secure the 7-1 victory.
 
North Florida returns to action on Wednesday, March 28, the Ospreys head to Daytona Beach, Fla. to take on Bethune-Cookman in a midweek game at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. Live stats and in-game Tweets (@UNFOspreys) will be available during the game.
