Men's Cross Country Places Fifth at Covered Bridge Invite

BOONE, N.C. – The University of North Florida men's cross country team placed fifth out of 11 teams at the Covered Bridge Invitational on Friday evening.
The Ospreys scored 131 points to edge out conference foe East Tennessee State, the sixth place finisher at 141 points. Southern Indiana took home first-place honors with 42 points.
Senior Mike Strasser grabbed eighth place to lead UNF, finishing the 8,000-meter course in 25:54.4.
“I think Mike definitely ran a fantastic race and I think we looked very solid from top to bottom,” Head Coach Mark VanAlstyne said.
Junior James Post and junior Cameron Dickerson took 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Post finished with a time of 26:30.9, while Dickerson was just behind him at 26:31.1.
Sophomore Chris Haynes finished 35th with a time of 26:49.3, while senior Josh Brown completed the scoring for the Ospreys, finishing 50th at 27:21.8.
“I think we definitely have a little bit of work to do in terms of running as a pack,” VanAlstyne said. “but I think for a first effort, against some pretty good competition, we ran a very solid race.”
The Ospreys are in action next when they travel to the Seminole Invitational on Friday, September 23. Races will start at 6 p.m.
