Game Notes (Miami game)
MIAMI, Fla. – Continuing their current three game road swing, the North Florida basketball team visits in-state foe Miami Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Bank United Center.
The Ospreys (1-2) look to rebound from a tough loss Thursday night at No. 7 Florida. Miami is 2-0 on the season having posted wins over Tennessee Tech and Rutgers.
Against Florida, UNF was unable to overcome 21 turnovers and a barrage of 11 three-pointers for the Gators. Junior Parker Smith led the way for the Ospreys finishing with 17 points while newcomer Travis Wallace grabbed a team best eight rebounds and scored all of his 12 points in the second half.
For the season, junior Andy Diaz tops UNF in both scoring and rebounding averaging 11.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
Saturday's match-up marks the 3rd all-time meeting on the hardwood for the Ospreys and Hurricanes. Miami has won the previous two meetings by an average of 37.5 points per contest. The game will serve as a sort of homecoming for several UNF players as Diaz and Jerron Granberry hail from Miami and freshman Fred Landers calls nearby Ft. Lauderdale home.
Current Miami director of basketball operations, Mike Summey, was the assistant head coach for the UNF program from 2006-08 under former head coach Matt Kilcullen.
Fans can follow the action live in several places including on the radio at 1600 AM WZNZ in Jacksonville, via the UNF Sports Network internet radio link (www.wbobradio.com) or on a video webcast at www.theACC.com/All-Access. Real-time live stats are also available on the official athletic department website (www.unfospreys.com).
Up next, North Florida concludes its current road trip Monday against No. 3 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
