
Women's Basketball Opens Home Schedule vs. Savannah State at 11 a.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida women's basketball opens the home portion of its schedule on Thursday morning when the Ospreys host Savannah State at UNF Arena on Elementary School Day.
Approximately 2,900 kindergarten – 5th grade students will be on hand for tomorrow's game. It will be the second game this season in which the Ospreys will have taken part in an event like this. UNF's game at Ole Miss was also a Kid's Day game.
UNF, who is 16-3 all-time in home openers and 173-98 at UNF Arena, enters Thursday's game coming off a 76-41 loss at USF on Tuesday night. Brittany Kirkland led the Ospreys with 14 points, while Raneisha Lamar and Octavia Langston each grabbed a team-best four rebounds.
Savannah State has just one game under its belt for the 2011-12 season. Powered by Ezinne Kalu's 21 points, the Lady Tigers posted a 55-38 season-opening victory against Paine College on Nov. 11 in Savannah.
The UNF-Savannah State series goes all the way back to UNF's inaugural 1992-93 season. Although Savannah State won the first-ever meeting 69-56 on Feb. 8, 1993 in Jacksonville, UNF leads the all-time series 5-4 and has a 4-1 record against the Lady Tigers at UNF Arena.
Tip-off for Thursday's game is scheduled for 11 a.m.
