TAMPA, Fla. -- Playing in front of a boisterous crowd at the USF Recreation Center, the University of North Florida women's basketball team lost 76-41 to USF Tuesday night.
Brittany Kirkland led the UNF (0-2) with 15 points, while Octavia Langston and Raneisha Lamar each had a team-best four rebounds.
UNF shot 31.3 percent for the game, going 15-for-48. The Ospreys tallied 32 rebounds, but committed 23 turnovers that resulted in 31 USF points.
Three Bulls reached double-digits in scoring. Kaneisha Saunders had 14 points, while Tiffany Conner and Andrea Smith totaled 12 and 10 points, respectively.
USF (2-2) went 29-for-62 from the floor, shooting 46.8 percent, and grabbed 41 rebounds.
UNF took an early 5-2 lead, but USF used a 12-0 run to go up 14-5 with 11:21 left in the first half. A long jumper by Fabiola Josil and a three-pointer by Kirkland pulled the Ospreys to within four. However, the Bulls went on another run, this time a 27-2 spurt to distance itself from the Ospreys. Although UNF made the half's final two field goals, USF entered halftime with a 41-16 advantage.
In the second half, UNF cut the Bulls' lead down to 23 when Megan Peterson hit a three-pointer at 9:21. However, that was the closest the Ospreys could get as USF used a 12-1 to increase their lead.
UNF is back in action on Thursday when the Ospreys open the home portion of their schedule against Savannah State. It will also be Elementary School Day at UNF Arena with approximately 2,900 kindergarten - 5th grade students will be in attendance. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
