SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The University of North Florida volleyball team dropped a closely contested match falling 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 22-25) Friday night at USC Upstate.

With the loss, UNF slips to 8-11 overall and 2-3 in Atlantic Sun play while the Spartans upped their season mark to 5-11 and 1-3.

Junior Paige Pridgeon led the way for the Ospreys recording her 10th double-double of the year finishing with 12 kills and 10 digs. She is also now only three kills shy of becoming just the ninth player in program history with 1,000 kills in a career.

Nicole Baran tallied a team best 18 digs and Anna Budinska finished with 16 digs, just one shy of a career best mark. Carolyn Jenkins ended the match with eight kills and two blocks.

Upstate's Morgan Thomas tallied 15 kills to lead all players on the night.

The Spartans built an 7-3 lead to start in set one before the Ospreys battled back pulling within a point, 15-14. A five-point spurt for Upstate pushed the lead to six and allowed the home squad to take the early lead with a 25-20 victory.

UNF broke an 8-8 tie with a 6-1 run to earn their first lead of the match. The Ospreys maintained a slight advantage until Upstate surged back in the lead, 20-19, behind a 6-1 run of their own. Down the stretch, the score was tied at 20, 21, 22 and 23. The Spartans got back-to-back kills from Kayla McAvoy to snatch with win by a slim 25-23 decision.

Another quick start saw Upstate in the lead 10-5 in set three. North Florida again refused to give in trimming the deficit to a single point several times. The Spartans answered the Osprey push and eventually built a 24-18 lead. UNF fought off four match point opportunities for Upstate before the hosts notched the deciding point.

The Ospreys conclude their current three-match road swing Saturday afternoon at ASun rival ETSU.
