DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bolstered by a solid team hitting performance, the North Florida volleyball team posted a 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-12) sweep over in-state foe Bethune-Cookman Tuesday night at Moore Gymnasium.

The win snapped a five-match skid for the Ospreys, who improved to 9-14 on the season. It also upped UNF's lead to 11-1 in the all-time series with the Wildcats (9-13). The pair meet again Oct. 25 at UNF Arena.

Paced by four players with hitting percentages over .300 for the match, UNF finished with a .292 performance marking the second best outing of the season. Junior Dagnija Medina led the way for the Ospreys finishing with eight kills and no errors in 12 attempts for a .667 clip.

Anna Budinska added seven kills and a team best 11 digs while junior Paige Pridgeon chipped in seven kills and junior Carolyn Jenkins had six. Freshman setter handed out 22 assists and a team-high three aces in the win.

A 9-2 run early in set one staked the Ospreys to a 12-6 lead. UNF maintained a comfortable advantage and closed the frame on an 8-2 run capped by back-to-back aces by Giovanazzi.

North Florida carried the momentum into set two building a quick 7-2 lead. The Wildcats clawed their way back into the set closing the deficit to a single point twice before earning a 17-16 edge on the strength of a five-point flurry. The two squads battled back and forth through the next several rotations until the Ospreys seized control by scoring six of the final seven points.

UNF dominated the deciding third set after busting open a 5-5 tie with a 10-2 rally. Moments later the Ospreys built a double-digit lead and then cruised to the straight set win.

North Florida next begins a three-match home stand Friday night against crosstown rival Jacksonville at 7 p.m. The match marks the start of the annual SunTrust River City Rumble competition between the two athletic departments.
