North Florida Falls to Morehead State, 3-0

BOX SCORE

ATLANTA, Ga. – North Florida fell to Morehead State, 3-0 during its final match of the Georgia State Invitational on Saturday in volleyball action at the Sports Arena in Atlanta, Ga.

The Eagles picked up 25-19, 25-21 and 25-17 wins in straight sets to improve to 2-1 on the season while the Ospreys fall to 0-3.

“The score doesn't indicate it, but that was the best and cleanest volleyball we have played so far,” said head coach Kevin Campbell. “Our offense was much more efficient, we passed well and were a lot more aggressive in our play. Our setter made some great decisions and I thought we really improved over the course of the weekend. I am looking forward to our next playing opportunity."

UNF was led by sophomore Paige Pridgeon with 14 kills while senior Jessica Catelano added 10. Freshman Britt Claessens tallied 25 assists and sophomore Nicole Baran notched 12 digs.

The Eagles were led by Holly Evans and Emma Keough with 11 kills each. Kirstie Brangers had 31 assists and Liz Schuler posted 17 digs.

UNF and MSU kept the first set close and were tied at 11 before the Eagles broke open the scoring to take a 19-16 lead. Morehead State closed out the set with a 6-3 run to take a 1-0 match lead.

In the second frame, the Eagles took the early 12-6 lead, but the Ospreys responded closing the gap to three (23-20) late in the match. UNF was still within three at 24-21, but a kill from the Eagles gave them the point needed to take the 2-0 lead.

MSU jumped out early in the third set, taking a 12-7 advantage. UNF closed the gap on the next possession, pulling within four (14-10), but the Eagles extended their lead to 19-11. The Ospreys were unable to overcome the deficit as MSU clinched the set and the match.

The Ospreys will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 3 at the Holiday Inn Jefferson Cup hosted by the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. UNF will face host team UVA on Friday at 1 p.m. followed by a 4:30 p.m. match against George Washington. On Saturday, Sept. 4, the Ospreys will face Liberty at 1 p.m.
