JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida women's basketball team will open up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 13 at No. 12/15 Florida State. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Seminoles are ranked No. 12 in preseason ESPN/USA Today women's basketball coaches' poll and No. 15 in the Associated Press poll. FSU went 26-8 last season and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
This is the third meeting between the two teams and FSU holds a 2-0 advantage over the Ospreys. UNF and FSU played a close game last season with the Seminoles making a late run to take the 60-49 win in UNF Arena. Redshirt freshman Jadhken Kerr had 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds in that contest before being sidelined by injury a few games later.
The Ospreys opened the season with a 56-51 home exhibition win over Flagler on Oct. 31. Sophomore guard Brittany Kirkland led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 55.5 percent on 10-of-18 from the field. Junior guard Juliemay Syquio tallied nine points, while senior forward Arlande Cherizol led UNF on the boards with nine rebounds.
UNF will stay on the road for its next contest as it travels to Pittsburgh for a Tuesday, Nov. 17 game against the Panthers.
