UNF Volleyball Falls to Kennesaw State

BOX SCORE

KENNESAW, Ga. – The University of North Florida volleyball team fell to Atlantic Sun foe Kennesaw State on Friday, Oct. 2, at the KSU Convocation Center.

With the 3-0 (22-25, 24-26, 16-25) loss, the Ospreys fall to 7-8 and 2-5 in A-Sun play while the Owls improve to 8-6 and 3-4 in the league.

The Ospreys were led by junior outside hitter Danielle Lerch with 12 kills. Sophomore setter Julie Fye tallied 25 assists while freshman libero Nicole Baran had 12 digs.

Leading the Owls was Sabrita Gulley with 15 kills. Rachael Albrigth and Ginny Frederick had 17 and 15 assists, respectively. Selina O'Leary posted 11 digs on the defensive side.

UNF got off to a slow start as the Owls took a seven point (17-10) lead in the opening set. The Ospreys threatened late, closing the gap to one at 22-21 off a block by senior Agata Dawidowicz and junior Kaley Read. KSU got the ball back on the next volley and a pair of kills put the Owls at set point. UNF would again get a chance, but a misstep from the Ospreys gave KSU the point to take the set, 25-22.

The second set was close until KSU opened up a four point lead at 19-15. UNF fought back and tied the set at 21. A pair kills by the Ospreys put them on top (23-22) for the first time since the opening point of the set, but the Owls would not go away and took back the lead at 24-23. UNF tied the set, but KSU took the set, 26-24, off a pair of kills.

KSU took control of the third set early and went on to win 25-16.

The Ospreys will be back on the court on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they face Mercer. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at the University Center in Macon, Ga.
