MACON, Ga. - The University of North Florida women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (12-25, 16-25, 8-25) to Mercer on Friday night.
Both sophomores Kaley Read and Danielle Lerch had a team-high five kills, while freshman Lizzy Manno notched 11 digs. Freshman Julie Fye tallied 15 assists and eight digs.
Mercer (17-8, 12-5 Atlantic Sun Conference) was able to contain the UNF attack, holding the Lady Ospreys to an .009 hitting percentage. UNF also committed 19 attack and seven service errors.
The Lady Ospreys (10-14, 8-9) got out to a positive start in the first set when it took a 4-3 lead on a service error by Mercer's Claire Tucker, but a 17-5 run by the Bears put UNF in a 20-8 hole. Mercer's run was aided by seven UNF errors.
Immediately following a timeout by UNF, freshman Shawna Metcalf slammed down a kill, but it wasn't enough to quell Mercer's momentum, as it closed out the set on a 5-4 run.
Mercer jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second set, which proved to be too tough of a deficit for the Lady Ospreys to overcome. UNF wasn't able to get closer than three the rest of the way, as the Lady Ospreys hit .000 for the set.
Despite three kills by Read in the third set, a 15-5 run by the Bears silenced the Lady Ospreys. Fye notched five assists on UNF's six kills in the set.
Senior Bary Rasmussen led the Lady Ospreys at the net with two blocks, while sophomore Marshay Greenlee finished with six digs.
