Lady Ospreys pick up first
home win against Wildcats

Final Stats

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's volleyball team finally put it all together on Saturday and won 3-0 (30-20, 30-15, 30-22) in dominating fashion against Bethune-Cookman at UNF Arena.

With the win, UNF improved its record to 2-11 and collected its first home victory of the season. The Lady Ospreys were led by Amy Stroder's 11 kills and season-high .357 hitting percentage. Junior Kavie Sturch chipped in with eight kills. Four UNF players (Madeline Belvin, Claire Yonutas, Nikki Prock and Maegan Weisert) recorded double-digit digs.

"It feels good to win at home," said head coach Kevin Campbell. "The team came together today. They decided they wanted to win together. We've been working so hard coming together as a team consistently, and today, it paid off."

The Lady Ospreys didn't waste any time putting the pressure on BCU (1-5), getting out to an 11-3 lead in the first game. UNF started the game on a 5-0 run that was highlighted by kills from Read and Stroder and a service ace from Belvin. The Lady Ospreys went on to go up by as many as 12 before wrapping up the win. UNF out-hit BCU .270 to .000 in game one.

Bethune-Cookman put up a tougher fight in game two, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. UNF retaliated by going on a 10-3 run to take a 10-7 lead. BCU went back up 12-10, but the momentum of the Lady Ospreys was too much for the Wildcats. UNF came back by scoring nine straight points on a rally that was led by three kills from Stroder. After a Wildcats timeout, the Lady Ospreys picked up where they left off and closed the game on an 11-2 run.

UNF never trailed in game three and went up by as many nine. Stroder capped her day with four kills in the game while Belvin tallied nine assists and six digs along with the match point kill to push UNF to the win.

Freshman Kaley Read put together six service aces along with three blocks and four kills. Belvin finished with 28 assists and five kills.

The Lady Ospreys will be back in action next weekend when they open their conference season at 7 p.m. on Friday against USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C.
