JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida men's soccer team closed out its preseason exhibition season on Thursday afternoon at Hodges Stadium with a 4-2 loss to cross-town rival Jacksonville.
The Dolphins raced out to a 4-0 lead before the Ospreys exploded over the final 30 minutes, scoring a pair of quick goals off the cleats of Oscar Ortiz and Akil DeFreitas in the 75th and 76th minutes, respectively, to tighten the match. The Dolphins barely outshot the Ospreys 13-12.
"We started a little sluggish in the early going and gave up a pair of easy goals," UNF head coach Ray Bunch said. "Once we scored, we gained a lot of confidence and showed more energy. It was just a little too late to keep it going. We showed some good signs. We just need to keep working."
Jordan Allerding and Adam O'Neill tallied assists for the Ospreys.
UNF will host its annual Alumni Game on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
