JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Redshirt freshman Akil DeFreitas made the most of his first game in an Osprey uniform on Tuesday night, providing a goal and an assist for the UNF men's soccer team in a 2-0 exhibition win over Flagler at Hodges Stadium.
Oscar Ortiz opened the scoring for the Ospreys in the 25th minute off an assist from DeFreitas to give UNF a 1-0 lead, and DeFreitas then added the final score of the night in the 42nd minute off a breakaway, getting the assist from Frank Dinzey.
UNF head coach Ray Bunch was impressed with his team's effort in the 90-minute workout that came only six days after the squad reported for practice.
"The first two thirds were good," Bunch said. "The last third we got a little tired, and our discipline went out. That is be expected somewhat this early in the preseason. I was happy with our fitness, but we need to keep working. Considering we've been working less than a week, I was reasonably happy."
Bunch singled out sophomore Jordan Allerding for his energy on the field.
"He was the man of the match in my eyes," Bunch said. "He worked hard, was all over the place and didn't give up anything all night. He was impressive."
The Ospreys will return to the practice field on Wednesday before playing their second of three preseason scrimmages against cross-town rival Jacksonville. Match time against the Dolphins is set for 4 p.m. at Hodges Stadium.
