UNF's bats blast off
in 8-2 win over Mercer

April 22, 2007

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jimmy Glanville blasted a career-high two home runs and notched five RBIs for the third time in his career to lead the University of North Florida baseball team to a convincing 8-2 win over Mercer on Sunday at Harmon Stadium.

Glanville's 2-for-3 day began with a three-run blast to left field in the bottom of the first to put UNF up 3-0. He helped the Ospreys extend their lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out, two-run round-tripper. It was Glanville's first career multi-home run game and upped his season mark to eight homers.

The offensive output was more than enough to help freshman LHP John Atteo, who baffled Mercer hitters all game long. Atteo struck out a career-high seven batters and allowed just one run on four hits in eight innings. It was an almost duplicate performance of his win over Belmont on April 7 when he also went eight innings and allowed just four hits.

UNF (17-25, 7-11 Atlantic Sun Conference) finally found what had been lacking at the plate in its previous two series losses to the Bears. The Ospreys collected at least one hit in every inning but the bottom of the fifth, and everyone in the starting lineup tallied at least one base knock.

A single by junior second baseman Chad Knight that drove in senior right fielder Jon Dandridge put the Ospreys up 4-0 in the bottom of the third. UNF added two more in the bottom of the fourth on RBI singles from Dandridge and redshirt freshman shortstop Mycal Jones to go up 6-0.

Atteo was able to work himself out of a jam in the top of the sixth. Mercer scored a run and had runners on first and third with two outs, but Atteo got the Bears' Tyler Brown to pop out to Jones.

Freshman Preston Hale tied his career-high with three hits, and Jones broke out of an 0-19 slump by going 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Ospreys will get the week off before returning to the diamond at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 4 to take on cross-town rival Jacksonville University at Alexander Brest Field in a three-game conference series. The series will determine who wins this year's SunTrust River City Rumble. All games will be broadcast live on WBOB-AM 1320 in Jacksonville, and live stats will be available on UNFOspreys.com.
