TEMPE , Ariz. - The University of North Florida softball team fell behind early and never could make a run at Arizona State Saturday night in a 6-2 loss at Farrington Stadium in the Sun Devil/Wilson DiMarini Invitational.
The two teams played to a wild slugfest on Friday night, but Arizona State (20-2) was the only team that was able to continue the offensive output on Saturday. Arizona State picked up where it left off on Friday, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, all of which came on a home run by Bianca Cruz.
ASU added a run in the second and two more in the fourth.
UNF (8-9) cracked the scoreboard for the first time in the bottom of the fourth when Kara Rutenbar drilled her first home run of the season. Rutenbar's home run snuck inside the foul poll and made it a 6-2 contest.
Rutenbar led UNF with a pair of hits, while her sister, Kelli, extended her hitting streak to five games with a single in the third.
Tori Ahern (1-4) took the loss for UNF, giving up six runs - five earned - in four innings of work. Ahern struck out one and allowed two walks. Mindy Cowles (1-1) took the win for the Sun Devils.
The Lady Ospreys will conclude play at the ASU/Wilson DiMarini Invitational on Sunday with an 11 a.m. EST contest against Houston.
