JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's tennis team lost a pair of matches to nationally ranked opponents over the weekend in Tampa - falling 4-3 to 35th-ranked Denver and 6-1 to 39th-ranked South Florida.

The Lady Ospreys fell to 13-6 with the defeats.

"We knew going into the weekend that it was going to be a challenge," UNF assistant coach Rodrigo Puebla said. "Our girls played well and stayed tough throughout the weekend, but we came up a little short. We need to keep working on taking advantage of the chances we have before us and find a way to capitalize on them."

Against Denver on Saturday, UNF captured the doubles point to jump out to an early 1-0 lead after sweeping all three matches. In singles play, the Lady Ospreys got wins from Natalia Sanchez over Kyla Iwinski at the No. 4 position (6-4, 6-2) and Ina Durcakova over Kaja Smole at the No. 6 spot (7-6, 6-2).

Denver (10-6) took the other four singles matches to claim the win, however.

Against South Florida on Sunday, UNF's only point came from Robin Rogers at the No. 6 singles spot - 6-1, 6-0 over USF's Ashley Schumacher.

The UNF doubles tandem of Florencia Torres and Ina Durcakova - ranked 55th nationally in the latest ITA rankings - won their match at the No. 2 position, 8-1 over Courtney Vernon and Schumacher. USF (11-6) won the other two doubles competitions, however, to capture the doubles point. Torres and Durcakova are now 13-0 this spring in doubles play.

The Lady Ospreys return to action on April 1 with a trip to Mobile, Ala., to face the University of South Alabama. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
