CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The University of North Florida volleyball team got a season-best performance from Amy Stroder and a sixth-straight double-double from Maegan Weisert on Friday night in dumping East Carolina 3-0 (30-22, 30-24, 30-25) at the opening round of the Charlotte Comfort Suites Invitational.
Stroder collected 16 kills and hit .324 - both season bests - while Weisert had 14 kills and 11 digs to lead the way for UNF (5-3), which won its fourth straight match. The Lady Ospreys also hit a season-best .266 and committed just 17 attack errors in posting their second consecutive shutout.
"Our outside hitters (Stroder and Weisert) really played well," UNF head coach Bryan Bunn said. "We came out with a lot of energy and played strong all night. It was definitely the way we wanted to start the weekend. Our last four matches have been good indicators of how well we can play when we have the proper mindset."
East Carolina (3-4) hit .157 with 22 errors and committed 10 service errors to aid in its demise, but UNF's offense proved too much to overcome.
UNF trailed 1-0 in the opening game but got three consecutive kills from Stroder in a 5-0 rally that pushed the Lady Ospreys ahead for good en route to an easy victory. Stroder had six kills in the opener, while UNF hit .250 as a team.
The same script held true in games two and three, with UNF falling behind briefly before quickly retaking the lead and cruising to the finish. The Lady Ospreys hit .410 in game two and got seven kills from Weisert to lead the way.
UNF will play two matches on Saturday to cap their weekend in Charlotte, facing Penn at 10 a.m. and tournament host Charlotte at 7:30 p.m.
