JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The North Florida women's tennis team has been virtually unstoppable in conference play of late. That trend continued on Thursday afternoon at the UNF Tennis Complex.

The Lady Ospreys (10-5, 5-1 A-Sun) smacked visiting Belmont in their latest outing - upending the Bruins 7-0 for their sixth consecutive win and fifth straight win in Atlantic Sun Conference play.

UNF has posted three consecutive shutout victories and four shutouts in their last five matches over the last two weeks. The Lady Ospreys are now 6-1 at home in 2006.

"It is always nice to know where we stand against conference opponents," UNF assistant coach Julie Stoppelli said. "A conference win means a lot. The girls had a tough time in doubles finding their games, but they pulled it together in singles to win all six matches. It seems like the girls are ready to take on whatever is thrown at them right now. They are really playing well."

Against Belmont, the Lady Ospreys won two of three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead and then cruised in singles with five straight-set victories. Only UNF's Vanessa Sanchez went three sets in singles. The reigning A-Sun Player of the Week lost the opening set 6-4 but rallied with a 6-1 victory in the second set and then captured the match with a 10-7 win in a super tiebreaker.

Sanchez has won her last six singles matches - including the last five at the No. 1 position.

Florencia Torres won for the eighth consecutive time in singles, upending Belmont's Tatiana Pozo, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 3 position. Also earning singles win for UNF were Catalina Castillo (6- 0, 6-0 at No. 2), Katja Brandt (6-0. 6-3 at No. 4), Lauren Cockbill (6-3, 6-0 at No. 5) and Robin Rogers (6-1, 6-3 at No. 6).

UNF returns to action next Wednesday when it plays host to Northern Illinois at the UNF Tennis Complex. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
