BOCA RATON, Fla. - The University of North Florida women's tennis team swept through south Florida on Saturday and continued its impressive play of late by defeating Atlantic Sun Conference foe Florida Atlantic 7-0.
The Lady Ospreys (6-5, 2-1 A-Sun) have won four of their last five matches, including a 5-2 win over St. John's on Friday in Tampa. On Saturday against FAU (0-5, 0-1 A-Sun), the Lady Ospreys won with relative ease, sweeping doubles play and getting singles wins from Vanessa Sanchez (No. 1), Katja Brandt (No. 2), Catalina Castillo (No. 3), Florencia Torres (No. 4), Lauren Cockbill (No. 5) and Carolina de Melo (No. 6).
Sanchez took the most difficult win of the season by any UNF player, upending FAU's Claudia Kecht in second- and third-set tiebreakers, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4).
The Lady Ospreys return to action on Sunday when they travel to Miami to take on Division II Barry - which is ranked third nationally.
