TAMPA, Fla. - Nationally ranked South Florida jumped to a 4-0 lead after winning the doubles point and singles matches at the first three positions en route to a 5-2 win over North Florida on Thursday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
No. 43 USF raised its record to 4-1, while North Florida fell to 4-5.
USF swept all three doubles matches and got victories from Neyssa Etienne, who is ranked 53rd in the nation, and Courtney Vernon, who is ranked 38th, in the first two singles positions to go ahead 3- 0. Liz Cruz clinched the match for the Bulls with a straight-sets win at the No. 3 position.
UNF got victories from Florencia Torres at No. 4 singles - in straight sets over Gabriela Duch - and from Lauren Cockbill (No. 5), 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 in a tiebreake ver Iciri Rai.
UNF will play against St. John's on Friday in Tampa before traveling to Boca Raton to face Florida Atlantic on Saturday and Miami on Sunday to play Barry.
