Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The University of North Florida volleyball team got blistering performances from middle blockers Allison O'Neill and Bary Rasmussen and a record- setting day from libero Tara Taylor on Saturday afternoon in upending Stetson 3-1 in Atlantic Sun Conference action at UNF Arena.

Taylor tallied 18 digs to break her own single-season record of 508 set in 2004. The senior needed just six digs to tie coming into Saturday's match and accomplished that feat midway through the second game in bringing her season total to 520.

Taylor already set the single-match digs record earlier this year with 42 against Murray State and needs just 105 more in the team's final seven matches to become the school's career leader in the category.

UNF (13-13, 4-1 A-Sun) got strong contributions all around in winning its third consecutive match and evening its overall record at .500. Junior outside hitter Maegan Weisert followed her big outing on Friday with another good performance on Saturday, tallying 17 kills and 12 digs while hitting .357.

O'Neill hit a season-high .647 with 11 kills in 17 total attacks, and Rasmussen added a career-high 12 kills and four blocks. Amy Stroder also had 16 kills and 15 digs for UNF.

As a team, UNF hit .317 for the match and committed just 15 errors. Stetson (5-16, 0-6 A-Sun) hit .130 with 27 errors. UNF had 73 kills and Stetson just 51.

Strong hitting propelled UNF to a pair of easy wins in the first two games, 30-20 and 30-19. Weisert tallied a combined 10 kills in the first two frames, while Amy Stroder added eight.

In game three, Stetson caught fire - hitting .327 with just four errors in posting a 30-27 victory. The Hatters used a 6-2 run to move ahead 17-12 - riding the strong hitting of Rebecca Orzechowicz, who tallied seven kills in the game. UNF sliced its deficit to 26-24 and 29-27, but a ball-handling error by the Lady Ospreys on the ensuing play gave the Hatters the win.

In game four, UNF rode O'Neill's seven kills and six more from Stroder to cap the match and improve to 5-0 all time against Stetson.

Orzechowicz led the Hatters with 17 kills and 13 digs. Gina Iocona added 11 kills.

UNF returns to action on Wednesday in Tallahassee at Florida A&M. Match time has been changed to 2 p.m. due to an event on the FAMU campus.
