JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2005)- The University of North Florida women's tennis team continued its impressive play Thursday, defeating Embry-Riddle 8-1 at UNF tennis courts. The No. 3 ranked men's team wasn't as lucky, falling 6-3 to the Eagles.

The No. 7 Lady Ospreys improve to 3-0, as the loss drops the men to 3-1.

"Our girls came in prepared, and ready to go," head coach Tom Schrader said. "Sweeping doubles again was really big for us; this was a good win for us."

The only singles match UNF did not win was No. 22 Yevgeniya Barysheva, who fell to Nora Kluge in straight sets at the No. 1 position.

"Yevgeniya struggled with an injury, but I was impressed with how the other girls stepped up and took care of business," Schrader said.

After taking two of three sets in doubles, the men's team looked poised for another win. Embry-Riddle crushed those thoughts by taking five out of six in singles.

"Embry-Riddle played very well today, we have no excuse," Schrader said. "We weren't prepared to play, and I think the team took them too lightly."

Sophomore German Escallon was the only UNF player to win his singles match, taking it in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3.

"They came in here and proved that they are a very good team," Schrader said.

The North Florida women's team will travel to Rollins College on Friday, to take on Nova Southeastern at 2:30 p.m. The men will take the court on Saturday as they host Florida Southern at 11 a.m.
